Why Is No One Talking About Job’s Pride & The Spirit of Leviathan God Revealed To Him?

Job was blameless, upright, and deeply reverent, a man admired for his integrity even in suffering. But everything shifted when God revealed Leviathan, a mysterious and fearsome creature symbolizing untouchable pride. In that divine encounter, Job saw more than a monster; he saw something he hadn’t seen before. Job was not the same before and after Leviathan. What followed marked a turning point so profound that his entire story changed. In this article, we’ll uncover the symptoms of Job’s hidden pride, the eerie similarities between him and Leviathan, and why exposing this spirit could be the key to your own breakthrough.

The story of Job is often misunderstood. Many view Job as an innocent victim of Satan’s schemes, which he was, but that’s only part of the story. The deeper mystery unfolds when God speaks, especially in Job 41, revealing the terrifying creature Leviathan. This wasn’t just a lesson in zoology or divine power. It was a spiritual X-ray. God was showing Job something within himself that had gone unnoticed: pride. This revelation forms a cornerstone of understanding why some trials persist and how deep deliverance truly works.

Job 1:1 describes Job as “blameless and upright, one who feared God and shunned evil.” But righteousness does not exempt us from temptation. In fact, it often attracts it. Job’s suffering began because he was righteous—a target of Satan’s envy. However, pressure reveals what comfort conceals. Through intense affliction, the hidden residue of pride began to surface in Job’s speech, attitudes, and defenses.

Job 41 is a detailed description of Leviathan, a sea creature no man can tame:

“Can you pull in Leviathan with a fishhook or tie down its tongue with a rope?… Lay your hand on him; you’ll remember the battle and never do it again.” (Job 41:1,8)

This chapter is not merely symbolic but prophetic and revelatory. God is speaking about a spiritual being cloaked in metaphor: a demon of pride, a high-ranking principality.

  • “His rows of scales are his pride” (v.15): Pride is the armor of Leviathan.
  • “No air can pass between them” (v.16): No wind = No Holy Spirit.
  • “His heart is as hard as stone” (v.24): Pride hardens the heart.
  • “He is king over all the children of pride” (v.34): This is not a minor demon. It rules.

Leviathan is a marine spirit (water represents chaos), a twisting serpent who blocks the flow of the Spirit in homes, churches, and individuals. He operates in darkness, secrecy, and religious environments.

Jesus said in John 14:30:

“The ruler of this world is coming, and he has nothing in Me.”

This is the gold standard: No landing strips for demons. Job, unlike Jesus, did have a landing strip. Pride. As Proverbs 26:2 says:

“A curse without cause shall not alight.”

Satan exploited this small opening. And God, in His mercy, exposed it.

Parallels Between Job and Leviathan

  • Leviathan does not make supplication (Job 41:3); Job stopped praying.
  • Leviathan speaks harshly; Job became bitter and defensive in his speech.
  • Leviathan breaks covenant (Job 41:4); Job questioned God’s justice.
  • Leviathan cannot be tamed; Job could not control his inner dialogue.

These are symptoms, not condemnation. But they are revealing.

Other Mentions of Leviathan in Scripture

  • Psalm 74:14 – “You crushed the heads of Leviathan.”
  • Psalm 104:26 – Leviathan frolics in the sea. A creature of chaos.
  • Isaiah 27:1 – “The Lord will punish Leviathan the fleeing serpent… and slay the dragon that is in the sea.”

Each reference shows God’s sovereignty over this twisted, serpentine spirit. But it takes a severe sword (Isaiah 27:1). Not dull preaching. Not half-hearted repentance. But deep exposure, humility, and deliverance.

After God’s speech about Leviathan, Job was undone:

“I had heard of You by the hearing of the ear, but now my eye sees You. Therefore I abhor myself and repent in dust and ashes.” (Job 42:5-6)

This is the turning point. Repentance broke Leviathan’s grip. Humility pierced through the spiritual scales that blocked the Spirit. After that?

  • God rebuked Job’s friends.
  • Job prayed for them.
  • Job’s fortunes were restored twofold.
  • He lived a long, fulfilled life.

God says, “Can you put a hook in his nose?” No. But God can. He alone has the authority to deal with principalities (Eph. 6:12). Our job is to:

  • Repent.
  • Humble ourselves.
  • Make no room for pride.
  • Let Him sever what we can’t see.

Symptoms You May Be Affected by Leviathan:

  1. Prayerlessness – You no longer cry out to God for help.
  2. Harsh, proud words – You become defensive, angry, and cutting.
  3. Covenant breaking – Disrespecting marriage, church, or God’s Word.
  4. Bitterness and offense – Unforgiveness seals the heart.
  5. Self-reliance – “I can fix this. I don’t need help.”
  6. Loss of spiritual hunger – You feel numb or bored with God.
  7. No desire to serve – You want to be served instead.
  8. Twisting conversations – You misinterpret people and cause division.

Pride blocks the Spirit. Leviathan seals up the heart. But God, in His mercy, brings exposure not to shame us but to liberate us.

Like Job, you may be in the trial of a lifetime. But what if that storm is revealing a deeper battle? What if God is pulling back the veil and showing you a spirit you can’t conquer on your own? Let Him pierce it. Let Him break it. Repent. Humble yourself. The wind will blow again.

God has restoration, abundance, and a double portion on the other side!

Remember, we don’t humble ourselves because we don’t want to give the enemy a landinstip only, we seek humility because we want to be Christlike. Jesus is our focus, not the devil!
