Our Belief in Sickness
We have adapted this into an article from his video sermon. Enjoy!
Testimonies of Healing
This was a really powerful service that we had in Canada. It was a Saturday night, and three particular healings took place. I want to share them with you.
- One young girl had been dealing with severe breathing issues for a long time. Nobody prayed for her, nobody laid hands on her, but suddenly, she realized she could breathe again! She came up, crying, sharing her testimony.
- Another man in his late 40s had been struggling with severe tremors since he was 25 years old. He also had serious digestive issues. The tremors were so bad he could barely stand for more than a minute or two at a time, which caused issues at work. Suddenly, he took off running across the front of the church! It was a large facility, and he ran all the way up to the balcony, jumping and shouting. The next morning, he testified that for the first time in 25 years, he could stand during praise and worship without pain and was able to go back to work. He was so excited that he dropped the microphone! The pastor’s face was priceless because they had just bought a brand-new sound system. But it was worth the mic-drop moment!
- The third healing was so sweet. An elderly woman came up. She was losing her vision. I asked her what was wrong, and she said, I can’t really see. I said, It’s macular degeneration, isn’t it? She asked, How did you know? I said, I don’t know; it just came up inside of me. So I laid hands on her and spoke the name of Jesus. Then I asked, How’s your vision? She gasped, Oh my goodness! I can see! The dark spots are gone! My central vision is restored! I can see! She was so excited.
The next morning, another woman came up to me and said, Chad, I need to tell you something about last night. Remember the woman who was healed of macular degeneration? I said, Yes.
She said, That’s my cousin, and it was a miracle that healing even took place.
Why? I asked.
She said, Because her entire family is cessationist—they don’t believe in healing or miracles! If you could have heard the dinner table conversation last night, you would have laughed. They were trying to figure out how she got healed when we don’t even believe in healing!
The key was the teaching that night. It was so simple that it actually gave her hope. She began to consider that maybe healing was actually real.
So, I want to share some of those same things with you today.
Exodus 15:26 – The Covenant of Healing
If you’ve found Exodus 15, we’re going to look at some very familiar scriptures.
This is where God establishes a covenant with Israel. They had just crossed the Red Sea, and they were now three days into the wilderness.
“If you will diligently heed the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in His sight, give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have brought on the Egyptians. For I am the Lord who heals you.” (Exodus 15:26)
How many of you have heard that scripture before? Probably most of us.
But let’s look at it in context.
The Israelites were thirsty. They had no water. They came to the waters of Marah, but the water was bitter. So God healed the waters.
Then, God made them this promise:
If you do what I tell you to do, none of these diseases will come upon you, for I am the Lord who heals you.
This is where we get the name of God: Jehovah Rapha—”I am the Lord, your healer.”
But I want you to pay attention to something.
Was God saying, “I am your healer” because He just healed their bodies?
No.
He was saying, As long as you follow my commands, you will NEVER get sick another day in your life.
This was not a promise to heal them. This was a promise that they would never be sick.
Think about that.
The Israelites were in slavery for 430 years.
They didn’t know God. They had no Bible. They never went to church. All they knew was the witchcraft of Egypt, its medical system, and its government. They had no knowledge of God at all, except for the miracles they saw.
And now, God was introducing Himself:
I am your healer.
But He wasn’t promising to heal them—He was promising that they wouldn’t even get sick.
Closing Prayer
Father, we just thank You for Your goodness and greatness in our lives.
Jesus, we thank You for the sacrifice You made for us. Right now, as we consider Your body, we begin to see our body. As we consider Your life, we begin to see our life.
Holy Spirit, I ask You right now for wisdom, understanding, and revelation. Help us to see ourselves for who we truly are—for all that You have done in us, for us, and all You desire to do through us.
I thank You, Lord, for the mighty miracles that will take place through the hands of everyone here.
I thank You for the mighty miracles happening in bodies right now, in this building and for those watching online.
I thank You for the separateness taking place right now in the body of Christ—that we would be the hope, the manifestation of the sons and daughters of God that the world is crying out to see.
Lord, may we be the generation that walks in this revelation, fulfilling the calling You have placed upon us.
May the world see us and see Jesus.
Thank You, Father, for how good You are and how good You’ve been to us.
In Jesus’ name, Amen!
