God’s LOVE is the Anointing of the Holy Spirit

What does it mean to be anointed? And what if the key to releasing the anointing of the Holy Spirit has been right in front of us all along? Discover the hidden path to a greater flow of His power. This simple revelation about the mystery of the anointing will shock you!

You’ve probably heard this word many times. In sermons, worship songs, books. People say things like, “We need the anointing,” or “That preacher is so anointed.” But have you ever paused and asked, what does the Bible really mean by anointing? Is it a special feeling? A supernatural energy? Is it only for a chosen few?

Many of us have been taught that the anointing is connected to power—to miracles, healing, deliverance, prophecy. And it’s true, the anointing empowers. But if we take a closer look at Scripture, we begin to see something deeper, something beautiful: the anointing isn’t just about power; it’s about love. The Holy Spirit, who anoints, is the very Spirit of love. The anointing is love in action.

When Jesus walked the earth, He moved in incredible power. But have you noticed what triggered His miracles? It wasn’t just a desire to demonstrate authority or prove who He was. The Bible tells us again and again: Jesus was moved by compassion. When He saw the crowds, “He was moved with compassion for them, and healed their sick” (Matthew 14:14). When a leper begged for cleansing, “Jesus was indignant. He reached out his hand and touched the man. ‘I am willing,’ he said. ‘Be clean!’” (Mark 1:41). When He met the grieving widow at the funeral of her only son, “When the Lord saw her, his heart went out to her and he said, ‘Don’t cry.’ Then he went up and touched the bier…” (Luke 7:13-14). And He raised her son from the dead.

It wasn’t cold power. It wasn’t detached authority. It was love that moved Him. Love opened the flow of power. Love stirred the anointing into action. Every miracle was an outpouring of the Father’s heart through the Son, empowered by the Holy Spirit.

And that same Spirit has been given to us. Paul says in Romans 5:5, “God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.” The anointing is not just some external mantle—it is God’s love poured into us by His Spirit, so we can pour it out to others. When we abide in love, we walk in the anointing. When we extend love, we release the power of the Spirit.

But there’s a warning too. Paul writes, “And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption” (Ephesians 4:30). It’s easy to quote this verse and think grieving the Spirit is about neglecting spiritual gifts or not obeying His promptings. But if we read the surrounding verses, we see that the context is all about relationships. Paul talks about bitterness, anger, slander, unforgiveness, harsh words. We grieve the Spirit when we break love. We hinder His flow when we allow division, resentment, or unkindness in our hearts. The Spirit of God is a Spirit of love, and He moves in unity. When love is broken, the anointing is blocked.

That’s why love is not optional for those who desire to walk in the anointing. Love is the very channel through which the Holy Spirit moves. The more we walk in love, the more freely the anointing flows. The more we forgive, the more we reconcile, the more we stay soft and tenderhearted, the more the Spirit can move in and through us without resistance.

And all of this leads us to the greatest anointing ever poured out: Jesus Christ Himself. Scripture says, “God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him” (Acts 10:38). But what was the greatest act Jesus did? It wasn’t just healing bodies—it was laying down His life. At the cross, love was poured out without measure. Power was released through sacrifice.

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16). God didn’t just tell us He is love. He showed it. Love gave. Love stretched out its arms. Love sent His anointed Son to save us. The anointing was love in action, bringing salvation, healing, and eternal life to a broken world.

And now, through the Holy Spirit, that same love has been poured into our hearts. May we be vessels where His love flows freely, and may we never forget: the anointing is love at work.

  • Isaiah 61:1 — “The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor.”
  • Psalm 133:1-2 — “How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity! It is like precious oil poured on the head…”
  • Exodus 34:6 — “The Lord, the Lord, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness…”
  • Romans 5:5 — “God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.”
  • Matthew 14:14 — “When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them and healed their sick.”
  • Ephesians 4:30-32 — “And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God… Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.”
  • 1 Corinthians 13:2 — “If I have the gift of prophecy… but do not have love, I am nothing.”
  • 1 John 4:8 — “Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.”
  • Acts 10:38 — “God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and he went around doing good and healing…”
