This year, the month of Tammuz began at sundown on June 14, 2026, and continues until sundown on July 13, 2026, according to the Hebrew (Biblical) calendar. It is the fourth month of God’s spiritual calendar and spans portions of June and July on the Gregorian calendar.
As we enter this month, we are invited to do more than simply turn another page on the calendar. God invites us to step into His appointed times—His divine rhythm for growth, revelation, and spiritual alignment.
Why Should Christians Care About God’s Biblical Calendar?
Many believers are unfamiliar with the Hebrew calendar, while others wonder whether it is still relevant today. The answer begins with understanding that God established His calendar long before any modern calendar existed.
The biblical calendar is not about earning favor with God or returning to the Law. Rather, it reveals God’s redemptive timeline throughout Scripture. Jesus (Yeshua) fulfilled the biblical feasts through His first coming and will fulfill the remaining prophetic appointments at His return. God’s calendar continually points us to Messiah and helps us recognize His patterns, purposes, and seasons.
Throughout Scripture, the Lord works in times and seasons (Ecclesiastes 3:1; Acts 1:7). Just as creation moves through spring, summer, autumn, and winter, our spiritual lives also move through God-ordained cycles.
Walking in God’s calendar does not mean practicing astrology or seeking mystical knowledge. It means paying attention to the patterns God Himself established in Scripture so that we can cooperate with what the Holy Spirit is emphasizing in each season.
Each biblical month highlights:
A unique spiritual focus
A tribe of Israel
A Hebrew letter
A biblical theme
Significant events recorded in Scripture
Practical lessons for our walk with God
Every month becomes another opportunity to grow in intimacy with the Lord.
Tammuz: The Month of Vision
The name Tammuz is associated with the fourth month of the biblical year. While the name itself came into common Jewish usage during the Babylonian exile, Scripture identifies this as the fourth month in God’s calendar.
The number four immediately points us toward one of the month’s central themes.
In Hebrew thought, the number four is connected with a door.
Tammuz opens the door into summer—a completely new season. Just as doors open into new places, this month invites us to step into fresh opportunities while remaining spiritually alert.
The question becomes:
What will you choose to focus on once the door opens?
The Hebrew Letter: Chet (ח)
The Hebrew letter connected with Tammuz is Chet (ח).
Chet is often pictured as a doorway or gateway leading from one realm into another.
Spiritually, it reminds us that every new season presents choices.
Will we walk through the open door with faith?
Or will we allow fear, distraction, and unbelief to determine what we see?
The Tribe of Reuben
The tribe associated with Tammuz is Reuben, Jacob’s firstborn son.
Reuben’s name means:
“Behold, a son.”
His calling was one of dignity, leadership, and firstborn blessing.
Yet Reuben lost much of his inheritance because he failed to remain steadfast and disciplined (Genesis 49:3–4).
This is one of the great lessons of Tammuz.
Good beginnings alone are not enough.
God calls us to remain faithful throughout the journey.
Reuben reminds us to guard our hearts, remain stable, and refuse to let temporary emotions or circumstances cause us to lose what God has entrusted to us.
The Constellation: Cancer
The constellation traditionally associated with Tammuz is Cancer (the Crab).
This is not astrology, nor is it an invitation to seek guidance from the stars.
Genesis teaches that God created the heavenly lights as signs marking His appointed times (Genesis 1:14). Their purpose is to testify to God’s glory—not to govern our lives.
The crab carries its home wherever it goes.
Spiritually, this reminds believers that our security is found in God, wherever He leads us.
The Body Part: The Right Hand
Tammuz is connected with the right hand.
Throughout Scripture, the right hand symbolizes:
Strength
Authority
Blessing
Covenant
God’s mighty power
This month invites us to ask:
What are my hands building?
What am I putting my strength toward?
Am I partnering with God’s purposes?
The Great Theme of Tammuz: Guard Your Eyes
More than anything else, Tammuz is remembered as the month of vision.
Not merely physical eyesight.
Spiritual sight.
During summer, our eyes are naturally drawn toward everything around us.
Likewise, our hearts can become distracted by what appears urgent, impressive, or frightening.
The Lord’s invitation is simple:
Watch what you watch.
Keep your eyes fixed on Him.
See every circumstance through heaven’s perspective rather than merely through natural observation.
Two Defining Biblical Events of Tammuz
1. The Golden Calf
While Moses was receiving God’s covenant on Mount Sinai, the people became impatient.
Instead of trusting God’s timing, they focused on what they could not see.
Fear replaced faith.
Waiting became wandering.
They fashioned the golden calf and began worshiping something they could see instead of trusting the God they could not see (Exodus 32).
The tragedy was not merely idolatry.
It began with misplaced vision.
Their eyes shifted from God’s promises to their circumstances.
2. The Twelve Spies
Another major event connected with this season is the sending of the twelve spies into the Promised Land (Numbers 13–14).
All twelve spies saw the same land.
All twelve saw the same giants.
Yet only Joshua and Caleb saw through eyes of faith.
Ten spies magnified the obstacles.
Two magnified God.
The difference was never what they saw.
The difference was how they interpreted what they saw.
This becomes one of Tammuz’s greatest lessons:
Faith does not deny reality.
Faith views reality through God’s promises.
The Warnings of Tammuz
Every biblical month carries both opportunity and caution.
Tammuz warns believers against:
Losing spiritual focus
Walking by sight instead of faith
Fear-driven decisions
Idolatry of visible things
Impatience with God’s timing
Allowing circumstances to define truth
Forgetting God’s past faithfulness
When our eyes leave Jesus, fear quickly fills the space.
The Invitation of Tammuz
This month calls us to:
Guard our eyes.
Guard our hearts.
Wait well.
See with faith.
Stay focused on God’s promises.
Refuse fear.
Walk through the open door with confidence.
As Paul reminds us:
“For we walk by faith, not by sight.” (2 Corinthians 5:7)
May this month of Tammuz become a season where your spiritual vision is sharpened, your faith is strengthened, and your eyes remain firmly fixed on the One who never changes.
