There are moments in every Christian’s life when a closed door feels like the end of the story.
We pray for an opportunity, but it disappears. We hope for healing, yet the pain remains. We expect an answer, but heaven seems quiet. In those moments it is easy to wonder whether God has forgotten us.
I have learned that a closed door does not always mean a closed future.
Sometimes it is simply God’s loving way of leading us somewhere we would never have chosen on our own.
The Bible reminds us:
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.”(Proverbs 3:5–6, NKJV)
Notice that Scripture does not tell us to understand every step before we trust God. It tells us to trust Him first.
That is difficult because we naturally want explanations. We want to know why the prayer was unanswered, why the opportunity disappeared, or why life suddenly changed direction.
But God often gives guidance one step at a time.
Think about Abraham. God did not hand him a detailed map. He simply said, “Go.” Abraham obeyed before he knew the destination.
Peter stepped out of the boat before he understood how he would stand on the water.
The disciples followed Jesus before they knew where the journey would end.
Faith has always required trust before clarity.
Looking back over my own life, I can see doors that I desperately wanted to remain open. At the time I believed they were essential. Yet years later I realised that if those doors had remained open, I might never have experienced the blessings God had already prepared for me.
His wisdom was greater than my plans.
Perhaps you are standing before a closed door today.
Do not mistake God’s silence for His absence.
Do not mistake a delay for a denial.
And do not mistake a closed door for the end of your calling.
While one door closes, God is already preparing another path. You may not see it today, but He sees the whole journey from beginning to end.
Our responsibility is not to force doors open.
Our responsibility is to remain faithful.
Keep praying.
Keep reading God’s Word.
Keep serving where you are.
Keep loving people.
Keep trusting Jesus even when the road ahead is unclear.
One day you may look back and discover that what seemed like your greatest disappointment became one of God’s greatest blessings.
Christ has never promised an easy road.
He has promised His presence.
And His presence is greater than any opportunity we may lose.
If today you are facing uncertainty, remember this simple truth:
When God closes one door, He never closes His heart.
He is still leading.
He is still working.
He is still worthy of your trust.
Walk forward with confidence, because the Shepherd always knows the way—even when His sheep cannot yet see the path.
May your hope remain in Jesus Christ, who is faithful yesterday, today, and forever.
